Do or DIY
This whole being a proper man thing took a bit of a confidence-knocking blow this morning. Heady from success at fitting some easy-to-fit wardrobe innards, and some very clever painting – two coats, nothing broken – I foolishly decided to have a stab at wallpapering.
Let’s just say we’re all feeling a little bit better now we’ve decided to call a proper man in. It feels like The Right Thing To Do. The sticky tangled strips of knotted and wrinkled paper that were starting to build up along the back wall were just not going to cut it. I ran out of excuses – the first piece was going to be hidden by the headboard, same the second – especially important considering the ragged mess that surrounded the light switches I’d cut round. There soon came a point where the wallpaper would be clearly visible and it became visibly clear to me that clearly visible meant trouble. Big trouble. That much was clear.
I could live with a crumpled piece of dirty sackcloth if it was squashed behind a big piece of wood, not sure I could cope with such a dreadful example of utter shitness if it was going to be on public display for the next ten years.
And my arm hurts now too.
Sometimes it’s better not to do it yourself.
Each man to his trade says I.
Or woman. I’m quite good at wallpapering – but really messy with the painting.

You must thank whoever, Zhisou, for not having wrapped yourself in all of it. Something is something. LOL.

If you’d like to pop round EP and paper the walls, I would not complain. I hate it.
Hi Jose, again, feel free to help, I have everything I need except the skill.

oooh dear. THIS is why I stick to painting. And when you go as slow as I do, it’s more like a scenic tour.

Yes, that it what I intend to do from now on in. No more wallpapering, not on my watch.

you’ll be happy too – when you grow tired of the decor, you won’t have to spend two weeks scraping it off!

That would never happen Dish – anyway it’s or the girls’ room and they can damn well keep it till they’re 16.

Hope you’ve chosen wisely – or they’ll be blaming you for that – as well as everything else.

Doubtless I will be blamed for everything, but I know my strengths and am made painfully aware of my weaknesses and limitations – hence I do not make interior decisions in our house.
