house style
The house style of the zhisou blog is currently as follows:
- Fonts and font sizes are as they come with this theme. No changes made.
- Proper names, except zhisou, take the proper case (e.g. Madrid). Capital letters are only otherwise used to suggest shouting.
- Foreign words are shown in italics (e.g. mardi gras)
- Foreign names are not translated except where I’d look stupid not doing so (e.g. King Juan Carlos, not John Charles, but Seville not Sevilla). These are not shown in italics, despite being foreign.
- Title of books, films etc. are shown in quotation marks (e.g. “Slumdog Millionaire”)
- Quotations are shown in both italics and quotation marks (e.g. “Fool me once, shame on you …“)
- When I remember, I try to use punctuation properly, like :; etc. but sometimes overuse – to separate ideas. But hey, that’s blogging!
- Photographs are always in black and white, except when they’re in colour. They are always shown in thumbnail with links to the photograph in full size.
- Posts are separated with a “more” link following the first paragraph. This is so I know who’s reading what in the stats (depressing though it is)
- Emoticons are not used. Emotion is suggested through skilled writing, or, if desperate, an exclamation mark (e.g. !)
- Sometimes there are inconsistencies and these style rules may evolve, that’s what makes it so exciting.
